Fixing Your Fixtures
When you think of plumbing fixtures, odds are you think of faucets, pipes and valves. According to Wikipedia, “a plumbing fixture is an exchangeable device which can be connected to a plumbing system to deliver and drain water,” so that definition includes a lot more than just faucets, pipes and valves.
Sinks, toilets, bathtubs and showers, faucets, spigots, taps, hose bibbs and even garbage disposals fall under the “plumbing fixture” category.
Fashion over Function
All of these plumbing fixtures have a specific job in their delivery and drainage of water, and we want to make sure they perform the functions they are designed to do. But several fixtures, namely, showers, tubs, toilets, sinks and faucets are often purchased with an aesthetically pleasing purpose in mind. In other words, we want our stuff to look cool!
Cool looking fixtures can be expensive to replace if they malfunction so it might be in your best interest to have them professionally inspected to see if repair is a cost-effective option before you replace them.
Conversely, if you have a faucet that is close to eight years old and it continues to drip even after all the basic remedies have been attempted, it makes sense to replace it as its lifespan is typically ten years.
Repair or Replace?
A basic formula to determine whether repair or replacement makes sense is if the repair costs meet or exceed the replacement costs, replacement might make more sense. Be sure to take into consideration the age and condition of the fixture when you make your decision.
If any of your fixtures are dripping or leaking, draining slowly or backing up, call us before you buy something new. We can do a thorough inspection to determine if it’s worth repairing or if a replacement makes more sense. We do repairs, replacements and installations on all plumbing fixtures. “Drain completely stopped up two days before Christmas. Niemeyer Brothers came out the same day I called. Plumbers were courteous and professional. My drain was a mess.Very difficult to get to the clog. They took it as a challenge and kept at it until it flowed better than it has in 30 years. It took some time but they were kind enough to bill me less which made me very happy. I also had them replace the faucet and water dispenser too and they did a great job. They took care and cleaned up nicely afterwards. Very happy customer.” Joel B. on Yelp
