Our Most Precious Resource
Living in the Valley of the Sun has many perks such as not having to shovel snow or navigate icy roads but it also has some drawbacks besides the obvious sky high utility bills in the summer months. One particular challenge is our hard water, or more accurately, our very hard water.
How Hard Is Our Hard Water?
Water hardness is based on total dissolved solids found in the water with calcium and magnesium being the most common solids. According to the Water Quality Association’s measurement of water hardness, Hard Water is 7.0-10.5 grains per gallon (120-180 parts per million) and Very Hard Water is >10.5 grains per gallon >180 parts per million).
So if you look at the City of Phoenix Water Services website, you’ll see our water hardness range is from 12-17 grains per gallon (205-291 ppm) putting us in the Very Hard Water category!
Dealing with very hard water isn’t necessary a health concern (scientific research has not yet concluded whether it’s good for us or bad for us), but it does play havoc on our plumbing fixtures and water related appliances (scale build up), our skin and hair (dry, itchy skin and dull, unmanageable hair) and it leaves spots on our glassware and dishes (which can drive some of us crazy).
The Best Line Of Defense is Water Conditioning
While there are several options available, the two most common water treatment modalities are a water softener system for your home (salt based or potassium based) and a reverse osmosis (RO) system for drinking water.
There are many different brands, features, sizes and price ranges to sort through which can lead to complete information overload. Plus you might find a lot of scare tactics and high pressure sales regarding water treatment systems. So be sure to do your research before you’re persuaded to buy something that isn’t right for you and your unique situation.
Our technicians can help by answering your questions about purchasing, installing and repairing your water softener and RO systems. And we promise not to scare you! Just give us a call. 623-582-5775
“Nate, the service manager, was absolutely fantastic. He, along with Adam, a tech who was also great, fixed a slab leak in my home with a re-route and installed a new water heater. Nate came highly recommended by a contractor in the family; he and Adam did not disappoint. We’d recommend them to anyone!”Eric S. on Facebook
